Israeli forces have arrested at least 20 Palestinians in a series of raids across the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, since Tuesday evening, according to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society. Among those detained are five women, including Jamila Abu Dahou and Jamila Kanaan from Ramallah, as well as journalist Hassan Abdel Jawad from Bethlehem.
The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society has reported a significant increase in arrests and field interrogations, which they attribute to a broader policy of collective punishment and revenge against Palestinians following the escalation of military actions in the region since the Gaza conflict began in October 2023.
The organization noted that the number of Palestinian women held in Israeli prisons has now reached 99, highlighting a concerning trend of increased targeting of women in these arrest campaigns. Additionally, the number of Palestinian journalists imprisoned has risen to 42, with two individuals reportedly subjected to enforced disappearance.
The situation reflects a growing pattern of detentions that many view as part of a systematic approach to suppress dissent and control various segments of Palestinian society. As these arrests continue, the Palestinian community remains on high alert, fearing further escalations in the ongoing conflict.
