Heavy monsoon rains and subsequent flooding in Pakistan have resulted in at least 107 fatalities and 344 injuries since late June, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). The most affected region is Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which has reported 55 deaths, while Punjab follows with 36 fatalities.
The NDMA indicated that more than half of the deaths were attributed to house or roof collapses, highlighting the severe impact of the weather on residential structures. In response to the crisis, authorities in Lahore, Pakistan's second-largest city, have established at least 17 flood relief camps to accommodate evacuated residents.
The ongoing weather crisis is compounded by warnings from the NDMA of additional downpours expected later this week, raising concerns that the situation may deteriorate further. Hundreds of homes have been damaged, exacerbating the humanitarian challenges faced by affected communities.
As the monsoon season continues, the government is under pressure to provide adequate relief and support to those impacted by the floods.
